The Theater Program at Drexel University consists of two distinct yet closely integrated components: Academics and Performance. Our program is designed to empower students to discover and develop their own voice and style in their art, with practical courses in Performance, Administration, and Technical Theatre. We serve the entire Drexel Community with engaging productions that create life-long supporters of the arts. Our program is dedicated to fostering student artistic development, creativity, and critical thinking, and we are looking for a talented educator to help us achieve this mission.
Job Summary
We are seeking an Adjunct Faculty Member to teach lab, lecture, and/or practicum courses in Theatre, as well as contribute to the overall mission of the Department of Performing Arts within Drexel's Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. As an adjunct faculty member, you will be responsible for effectively teaching students in assigned classrooms or remote settings, maintaining proper course-related records, and evaluating student work and providing feedback. You will also be expected to communicate with the program director regarding any course or student issues and perform other similar duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach required number of credit hours per quarter based on contract
- Teach lab, lecture, and/or practicum courses in Theatre per contract
- Plan and provide instructional experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the Theatre Program
- Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes
- Maintain communication with the program director regarding any course or student issues
- Perform other similar duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Theatre, or equivalent professional theatre experience
- Strong knowledge of theatre practices, theory, and history
- Excellent teaching and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
- Flexibility to teach days, evenings, nights, and weekends, with the potential for online only, in-person only, or a combination of both
Preferred Qualifications:
We are looking for candidates with:
- Master's Degree in Theatre or related field
- Professional experience in theatre performance, production, or administration
- Experience with curriculum development and implementation
- Familiarity with experiential learning and cooperative education
