Mueller Water Conditioning, Inc. | Houston, TX (with opportunity to support projects across our San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas branches)
Mueller Water Conditioning is a Texas-based commercial and industrial water treatment company serving customers across healthcare, manufacturing, power, semiconductor, food and beverage, and institutional markets. We design and build systems including water softeners, ion exchange demineralizers, reverse osmosis, filtration, and cooling tower/boiler feedwater treatment. We are seeking an experienced AutoCAD Designer on a contract basis to support our growing pipeline of engineered projects.
About the Role
This is a contract position for a skilled AutoCAD Designer who can hit the ground running on commercial and industrial water treatment equipment design. You will work directly with our engineering and sales teams to produce production-ready drawings for skidded systems, vessel assemblies, and integrated treatment trains. Expect a mix of new system design, customer submittal packages, fabrication drawings, and P&IDs.
What You'll Do
Develop general arrangement, equipment layout, and fabrication drawings for water treatment systems including softeners, ion exchange units, RO skids, filtration systems, and DI exchange tank assemblies
Design and detail mechanical piping arrangements including valves, fittings, manifolds, and skid layouts in carbon steel, stainless steel, PVC, CPVC, and other process piping materials
Produce P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and instrumentation details for customer submittals and shop fabrication
Detail pressure vessel internals including distributors, laterals, and underdrain assemblies
Generate bills of material tied to drawing revisions
Coordinate with sales engineers, project managers, and shop personnel to incorporate revisions and resolve constructability questions
Maintain drawing standards, title blocks, and a clean revision history
What We're Looking For
Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD (current release); experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor, or SolidWorks is a plus
Direct experience designing commercial or industrial water treatment equipment is required — softeners, ion exchange, RO, filtration, or similar process equipment
Strong working knowledge of mechanical piping design, including valve selection, fitting takeoffs, pipe supports, and standard schedule callouts
Familiarity with ASME pressure vessel conventions, NSF/ANSI standards relevant to water treatment, and standard industry symbology for P&IDs
Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, datasheets, and customer requirements
Self-directed, organized, and comfortable managing multiple project drawings concurrently
Excellent communication skills for coordinating with engineers, fabricators, and customers
