Contract Attorney
Location: Portland, Oregon (Remote Project‑Based Role)
Position Overview:
Our firm is seeking a Contract Attorney to support our Oregon‑based legal matters on a project‑by‑project basis. This role is ideal for an attorney who is self‑directed, highly organized, and experienced in civil defense litigation. Workload will vary depending on case needs, and assignments may involve collaboration with attorneys across multiple practice groups, including Labor & Employment, General Liability, and Mass Tort.
This is a flexible, contract‑based position with opportunities for recurring work based on performance and firm needs.
Job Requirements:
Active Oregon Bar license in good standing
Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school
4+ years of civil defense litigation experience, preferably in Labor and Employment (EPLI), General Liability, Mass Tort / Toxic Tort, Construction Defect, or any Insurance Defense related practice area
Experience managing a litigation caseload including, taking and defending deposition, court appearance, and drafting motions and discovery
Mediation and trial preparation (trial experience a plus)
Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and standard legal software
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
Strong oral and written communication skills, including clear drafting and effective advocacy
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to all ethical obligations
Job Responsibilities:
Draft, review, and respond to complaints, motions, and written discovery
Prepare for and attend depositions
Assist with mediation preparation and trial‑related tasks
Attend hearings and client meetings as needed
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda
Track time and bill in accordance with firm guidelines
Perform additional litigation support tasks as assigned
