Job Summary    The Credit Specialist is responsible for supporting credit risk management, account review, credit policy execution, and exposure monitoring across the customer lifecycle. This role evaluates customer credit risk, supports credit decisioning, and helps minimize bad debt exposure while balancing customer experience and operational efficiency.  The Credit Specialist works closely with Collections, Customer Care, Customer Acquisition, Finance, and Risk teams to ensure credit policies are applied consistently and credit exposure is properly managed.    Essential Duties      1. Credit Risk Assessment & Decisioning     Review customer accounts and assess credit risk  Perform credit evaluations and account reviews  Apply credit policies and procedures consistently  Recommend credit limits, deposits, and payment terms   Monitor high-risk accounts and exposure      2. Credit Policy Execution    Support implementation of credit policies  Monitor credit policy effectiveness  Ensure consistent policy application   Identify policy gaps and improvement opportunities  Support risk mitigation initiatives      3. Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Management    Monitor credit exposure and delinquency trends   Identify high-risk segments and accounts  Support bad debt reduction strategies   Monitor credit performance metrics  Escalate high-risk situations      4. Operational Support    Support account investigations related to credit decisions  Assist with deposit reviews and adjustments   Support for exception handling and approvals  Coordinate with collections and customer care teams  Support credit-related escalations      5. Reporting & Analysis    Track credit performance metrics  Provide credit risk reporting  Identify trends and emerging risks  Support forecasting and portfolio analysis      Minimum Requirements    3–5 years’ experience in credit, collections, or financial risk  Experience in credit risk assessment  Strong analytical and decision-making skills  Experience working with customer account systems  Strong attention to detail      Preferred Qualifications    Utility or energy industry experience  Knowledge of credit risk and collections processes  Experience with SAP, Salesforce, or similar systems  Experience with credit bureau data      Key Skills & Competencies     Credit risk assessment  Analytical thinking  Decision-making ability  Attention to detail  Stakeholder communication  Problem-solving skills  NRG Energy is committed to providing broad access to employment opportunities for diverse job seekers, and to ensuring our workforce represents the diverse communities we serve.
