Role Overview
As an Expert Audio Transcriber, you will convert audio recordings of native Tagalog speakers into precise, conventionally formatted written transcripts. Your work will directly impact the quality of speech recognition, dialogue systems, and AI evaluation products used by major AI labs.
You will work with diverse audio sources ranging from clean studio recordings to natural conversations in real-world settings, applying expert linguistic judgment to ensure exceptional transcription accuracy and consistency.
Scope of Work
Focus on Tagalog and Filipino as spoken across Luzon and Metro Manila, including Taglish (natural Tagalog-English code-switching)
Audio reflects everyday conversational speech, slang, and regional variations across Tagalog-speaking provinces
Primary speaker regions include Metro Manila, Luzon, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Bulacan
Key Responsibilities
Transcribe audio recordings into accurate, time-aligned written text following Perle’s project-specific style guides
Apply correct conventions for speaker identification, overlapping speech, disfluencies, fillers, false starts, and non-speech events
Make principled orthographic decisions for dialectal, colloquial, and code-switched speech
Flag ambiguous segments, uncertain speakers, and audio quality issues using project conventions
Self-review all submissions against Perle’s quality standards before delivery
Collaborate with QA reviewers on calibration sessions, edge cases, and style guide updates
Required Qualifications - Must-have Requirements
Native fluency in Tagalog with lifelong residence or deep immersion in the Philippines
Strong working English proficiency to accurately handle Taglish code-switching
Mastery of current Filipino orthography under the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino guidelines
Familiarity with regional Tagalog accents and contemporary slang
At least 2 years of professional transcription experience
Experience in captioning, court reporting, broadcast, translation, or linguistic annotation
Demonstrated word-level accuracy under deadline pressure
Comfortable using web-based annotation platforms
Comfortable working with variable-speed audio playback tools
Reliable high-speed internet connection
Quality headphones and a quiet working environment
Ability to commit to a defined weekly workload during active project phases
Preferred Qualifications
Background in Filipino linguistics, journalism, translation, education, or broadcast media
Prior experience working with Tagalog or Philippine-language speech datasets
Working knowledge of Cebuano, Ilocano, or Hiligaynon
Familiarity with IPA or phonetic transcription systems
Experience with verbatim and clean-verbatim transcription standards
