Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Part-time Temporary HR Manager for a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding educational access and student success. This is a fully remote opportunity for candidates located in California, with a preference for applicants residing in the Central Valley. POSITION OVERVIEW: This temporary, part-time Human Resources Manager will oversee day-to-day HR operations while partnering with leadership to support a collaborative, people-first culture. The role will supervise an HR Coordinator, guide employee relations, ensure compliance with employment laws, and support a newly unionized workforce. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys both strategic initiatives and hands-on HR management in a remote environment. PERKS: • Competitive pay of $38-$43 per hour • Fully remote opportunity for California residents • Flexible 20-hour/week schedule, Monday through Thursday • Company-provided laptop and remote work support • Opportunity to make an immediate impact with a respected, mission-driven nonprofit RESPONSIBILITIES: • Lead HR operations, employee relations, compliance, and performance management initiatives across the organization. • Supervise and mentor the HR Coordinator while supporting recruiting, onboarding, employee development, and offboarding activities. • Provide guidance on union-related matters, including administering collective bargaining agreements and supporting leadership with employee relations. • Manage HR systems, personnel records, reporting, and HR projects while maintaining compliance with applicable employment laws. • Partner with leadership on staffing, workforce planning, employee engagement, and organizational initiatives. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support payroll, HR communications, and operational priorities. QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience leading HR operations in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization. • Experience supporting unionized employees and working with collective bargaining agreements. • Strong communication, interpersonal, project management, and problem-solving skills. • Proficiency with MacOS, Google Workspace, and remote collaboration tools. • HR certification (SHRM, PHR, HRCI, or similar) is preferred.
