Job Summary
Salas O’Brien is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support our water and wastewater engineering practice reporting to our Roseville, CA office. This position can be hybrid or remote for the right candidate. This role is responsible for leading the planning, design, and execution of drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects while managing client relationships, supporting business development efforts, and mentoring team members. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, project leadership experience, and a proven track record of delivering successful projects.
Responsibilities
Lead water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pump stations, storage facilities, and treatment systems
Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and at high quality standards
Oversee and coordinate project teams, including engineers, CAD designers, and subconsultants
Helpful but not required to maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts, including pursuing and winning new work
Provide technical leadership and apply engineering expertise across water and wastewater system planning, funding, design and operations
Mentor and develop junior staff through coaching, training, and performance feedback
Prepare and deliver clear, concise technical documentation and presentations
Support team growth through collaboration, recruiting, and knowledge sharing
Qualifications and Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California
Minimum of 10 years of experience in water/wastewater engineering
Proven experience managing projects, teams, schedules, and budgets
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and deliver successful client outcomes
Preferred
Experience with pump station and water/wastewater treatment design
Established client relationships and local market presence
Demonstrated success in business development and client growth
Experience mentoring and developing early-career professionals
Travel
Travel up to 20% may be required to support governance reviews, executive steering committee meetings, audits, business stakeholder engagement, and team collaboration activities.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected base salary range for this role is $120,000 – $200,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
