Great Bend Industries is seeking a Design Engineering Supervisor to lead the design and development of innovative hydraulic cylinder solutions. This role involves providing technical leadership, managing the engineering team, and ensuring alignment with the company's strategic objectives while fostering a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of new and custom hydraulic cylinder products from concept through production release
- Establish design requirements based on customer specifications, application requirements, and industry standards
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and product documentation for accuracy and manufacturability
- Manage engineering change notices (ECNs) to ensure accurate product documentation and seamless implementation of design revisions
- Provide technical expertise related to hydraulic cylinder design, material selection, manufacturing methods, and product performance
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements
- Responsible for estimating all cylinder projects to ensure accurate and consistent bid to build process
- Fully understand manufacturing costs and incorporate accurate costs into all project estimates
- Prepare all item master listings and bills of materials to ensure accurate costs
- Continually improve material and manufacturing cost strategies by finding improved techniques in both areas
- Serve as a primary technical resource for customers throughout the design and product development process
- Collaborate with customers to understand application requirements and develop effective engineering solutions
- Provide technical support for Sales, Operations, Purchasing, and Manufacturing during product development and production
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through responsive technical support and effective communication
- Support prototype development, testing, validation, and product launches
- Participate and lead new product launching
- Coach and mentor various levels of engineers, and support personnel, not to exceed 4 direct reports
- Assist with recruitment, training, and development of staff
- Conduct performance reviews and set objectives for team members
- Ensure all engineering practices adhere to industry standards and regulations
- Collaborate with other department heads to ensure alignment of company goals and drive collective success
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- 1+ years of supervisory experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and people development skills
- Consistent track record for executing performance objectives and delivering results with minimal supervision
- Experience working in SolidWorks, Inventor and AutoCAD
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, including overnight travel. Initial travel upon hire may exceed 20% during training
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering
- 5+ years' experience in a directly related role
- Professional Engineer License
- Experience in design and manufacturing hydraulic cylinders
- Experience in metals manufacturing, machine shops, and welding
- Experience in Made2Manage MRP Platform
