Henderson Scott US is a highly respected international law firm seeking a Legal Billing Manager to oversee a billing team and drive operational excellence across the client accounting function. This fully remote role involves leading a team responsible for billing, compliance, reporting, and client financial support, while also mentoring and improving processes.
Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders to understand billing needs and implement best practices for client accounting
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of billing specialists, including performance reviews, goal setting, and professional development
- Oversee daily workload to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant billing for attorneys and clients
- Manage onboarding, training, and ongoing development to ensure consistency in billing processes and policies
- Act as the escalation point for complex billing inquiries; research and resolve issues involving guidelines, rates, and client requirements
- Track team performance metrics; identify service gaps and implement solutions to maintain high service levels
- Produce and validate complex monthly financial reports; recommend new reporting to support leadership insights
- Lead or support special projects, process improvements, and technology initiatives related to billing operations
- Monitor and resolve daily tickets through internal service desk systems
Skills
- 7+ years of legal billing or client accounting experience in a law-firm setting
- Minimum of 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role
- Extensive experience with legal billing systems (Aderant required)
- Advanced Excel capabilities (reporting, analysis, data validation)
- Hands-on experience with eBilling systems and vendor platforms
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, make sound decisions, and manage complex workflows independently
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
