The Senior Network Engineer will provide technical expertise in overseeing network communications systems, ensuring maximum performance and availability. Responsibilities include planning, designing, and supporting LANs/WANs/SANs and troubleshooting network issues.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical expertise in the oversight of a public and/or private network such as Internet protocol (IP) networks, wide, local and storage area networks (WANs, LANs, SANs) and public switched telephone networks
- Plans, designs, installs, maintains, monitors, analyzes, troubleshoots, modifies and supports network communications systems to provide maximum performance and availability
- Plans, designs, implements and supports LANs/WANs/SANs in the areas of Internet connectivity, capacity planning, routing, switching, server load balancing, network security and wireless
- Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance network capabilities
- Deploys and implements plans and designs of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations
- Conducts network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies
- Defines monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand
- Troubleshoots network issues and develops appropriate solutions, resources, and deployment processes
- Keeps informed of the latest technologies to enhance knowledge of networking hardware, software, and best practices
- May be certified in vendor-specific products
- May also have responsibility for Network Administration including: Responsible for the daily administration of a network and server environment
- Installs, configures, and maintains system software
- Monitors network performance, troubleshoots issues, and deploys solutions
- Documents network issues and events using standard formats
- Plans and implements upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment installation
- Uses scripting and writes basic programs to automate processes
- Maintains and follows disaster recovery, security, backup, and restore plans
- May evaluate new tools or equipment and perform analysis/feasibility studies to guide decisions on optimizing network performance
