Selby Jennings is partnering with a well-funded healthcare technology company focused on building AI-native infrastructure for healthcare. The Staff Backend AI Engineer will design and build backend systems for AI-driven workflows, develop scalable services, and mentor other engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design and build backend systems powering AI-driven workflows and automation
- Develop scalable, reliable services supporting inference pipelines, orchestration, and high-volume data processing
- Drive architecture across distributed systems, APIs, and platform infrastructure
- Partner with product, data, and domain experts to bring complex systems from concept to production
- Mentor engineers and help raise the overall technical bar
Skills
- 8+ years of full-time experience building and operating production backend systems
- Degree in computer science or an adjacent field
- Strong Python expertise with deep distributed systems experience
- Experience deploying AI-powered products into production environments
- Cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience working in fast-moving, high-growth environments is a plus
- Particularly interested in candidates from Big Tech, healthcare technology, digital health, healthcare infrastructure, or top-tier consulting organizations with meaningful healthcare domain exposure
